Mars is just 13 days away from its retrograde in Aries and is currently just 2° away from the point it retrogrades at. Meaning, Mars a fast-moving planet whose purpose is to move, energize, activate, inflame and assert its will; is basically standing still in the sky unable to enact any of his normal traits or activities. Moving only 2° in 13 days takes away the ability for Mars to do any of its normal significations, which essentially creates frustration, stagnation and pent up energy beginning to build, and build and build, until the Mars retrogradation on September 11 (AEST).
Interestingly at the time of the Mars retrogradation the Moon will be a waning in Gemini conjunct the north node, and in a tight sextile aspect, giving the beginning of this retrograde a more inflated and fiery quality thanks to the North Node, and the waning cycle of releasing of an air sign moon and its emotions. If there was a match, to strike Mars and the jacked up moreish quality of the north node (rahu) this could well be a potential hotspot, or a cautious date to keep an eye on (September 11th).
Saturn has been and will continue to square Mars. A difficult or challenging aspect in Astrology, a square aspect adds friction to the relationship between two planets, whose general natures are opposing. Both Mars and Saturn are in rulership – meaning they are equally as strong and matched in the fight. Mars moving into a retrograde cycle, makes mars more volatile and un-predictive.
Mars is basically unable to express itself and goes rogue, whilst Saturn is operating as normal, and is all about asserting consequence, restriction, government power structures and control. The Mars Saturn square has been “on” since the 18th of August and begins to cool off at the beginning of October. Returning again in early 2021.
Saturn is the stern parent, and Mars the hyperactive child however this is a Mars whose energy has been so pent up that it’s become unpredictable and is ready to set a light all that is frustrating it. Resistance to Saturn will be strong, however Saturn is all about the long game, and looks to have the upper hand in this scenario. This is the dynamic that is playing out over the next couple of months, so stay tuned in and be on the look-out ! Today’s Winter Solstice, coincides with a Solar (New) Moon Eclipse. The Last time this occurred on the June Solstice was in 2001, that turned out the be quite a defining year for Geopolitics, it would be accurate to say, unseen powers were at work at the 2001 June Eclipse.
To answer the question of, is this a common occurrence ? This coincidence of a Solar eclipse on the same day as the June solstice will only happen once again this century: on June 21, 2039.
Today, it could be said is the middle point of this unfolding story. Like in 2001, this years configuration of Saturn and Pluto, created difficult and unsettling terrain to navigate, for the rest of 2020, creating a new 38 year era of changing power structures. 2001 was a half way point. Pluto and Saturn were opposed in 2001, they conjoined in January 2020), kicking off 2020 and a new decade. 2020 is a year of continual and potent change geopolitically, this Eclipse is part of the story, of which only time will reveal. Eclipses operate and highlight, blind spots or hidden activities, which later get revealed.

On Sunday 21stof June, we have a large Solar Eclipse on the auspicious Cancer Solstice 0° point. With half the inner planets now retrograde, and Mars moving into position for its retrograde, later this year; a strongly aspected Solar Eclipse on the Solstice point reflects the power of unseen and imbalanced energies at work. When it comes to harvesting, good energy, this Solstice is not the best pickings.
Eclipses are when the Sun and the Moon are literally overshadowed by each other. Looking like they are either eating or swallowing each other. It’s not great for a relationship based on feeding/reflecting each other with each-others light. The relationship of the Luminaries is the basis of seasonal cycles, time keeping as well as seeding and harvesting foods and crops all things we are dependent on as a Society. Eclipses are when this relationship is not its usual self and where the unseen is at work, eclipsed from vision. What is being formed is literally shadowed, blocked, unclear, or shady. This shady business occurring, at the point of greatest imbalance of light, whether it be greatest light, or greatest darkness, it’s a double down on this imbalance of light and what is seen and unseen. It’s a good time to reflect on issues of the Cancer / Capricorn axis, as they are at the heart of this Eclipse. Cancer (Home, Family, Ancestors, Nourishment, Tending to Emotional and Physical Needs and Instinctual / Protective Qualities) vs Capricorn (Power, Work, Government/Governance, Autonomy, Career, Money, Reputation, Being Seen). Focusing on getting these topics balanced, so you are not dominated by either sphere, helps in working with what 2020 is offering up.
This eclipse is on the Rahu or North Node side of the Eclipse equation. Meaning it has a Moreish/ Materialistic / Consumption quality about it. Mercury has started it’s 2nd of 3 retrogrades in Water signs for 2020. Mercury is currently stationary in the sky, about to move backwards, joining its neighbour Venus, in its state of retrogradation. Mercury joining Venus in its position of reflection, reassessment, and redoing is a double dose of inner cosmic hijinks, weighted towards the personal recalibration rather than pushing forwards with big chess moves or big goals.

The Month of May opens, with Venus slowing down to begin her Retrograde cycle, in Gemini (13/14 May – June 25th). Venus’s retrograde is a 6-week process of reshaping, reforming, re-evaluating and readdressing our interactions and relationship to connection, value, relationships and what we love and enjoy or consider pleasure. In the sign of Gemini, Venus creates a more communicative, mercantile (merchant / business) slant to Venus. Venus in Gemini is extremely charming and attractive, making this Venus retrograde feel more alluring than other retrogrades, creating a more optimistic start to a Venus Retrograde month.
From May 1 – May 26th, Venus will be squaring Neptune in Pisces, creating a rose-tinted glasses effect. Contacts for Neptune add a strong layer of confusion, distortion, and strong dissolving of boundaries, and loosening of restrictive forces or boundaries. This creates, a layer of illusion, non-reality and possible false optimism as we begin and start this Venus retrograde cycle. Interestingly enough this is also the time Australian states are expecting to relax social restrictions around Covid – 19, allowing its citizens to begin less restrictive with social engagements. Time will tell, if this is false optimism, or if restrictions will need to come back into play down the track. Either way, Venus square Neptune is very much about the relaxation and dissolving of boundaries, and the relaxation of social restrictions is quite aptly timed.
The Scorpio Full Moon, May 7thcreates an intense introduction to the 2ndweek of May, where we see lots of the energetic shift occurring. Full Moon’s are seen as finishing points, or points of complete fullness. Full Moons can be seen as “prime for the picking “, then begins a phase of letting go and releasing, allowing for a new cycle to begin. Mercury in opposition to this Full Moon, signifies some important information may come your way, to help complete this cycle, or help enhance the ripening of this Full Moon. As its in deep water, intuitive hits have the potential to be strong at this time. Don’t be afraid to listen to them. Also, be wary of any stinging tails coming out, or any spiteful discourse as this is also very possible at this time.
The rest of this month’s important activity keeps its focus firmly in Gemini, meaning Gemini really is the focus point of your chart this month. The Nodal Shift into the Gemini / Sagittarius axis, like the Venus retrograde cycle is also an 18-month transit that, interestingly enough occurs in the same sign. This points a strong finger to the Gemini / Sagittarius axis in your chart.
The Nodes are Sun / Moon points, and the indicators of eclipse cycles, every 18 months they move to a new area of the chart. This creates strong energy shifts, and create a strong emphasis on life themes or topics, of the house’s / area of life they occur in. They are moving out of the Cancer / Capricorn axis (to the relief of Aries, Cancer, Libra, Capricorn’s) lessening the intensity of this already loaded axis. Gemini now see Rahu or the North Node, move into its sphere. The North Node has a desire to consume and at times overdo, things (i.e.: Planets for house topics it is in contact with), creating great drive and momentum, but also the potential for overdoing and discovering when limits need to be set. April 4th, 2020, Venus will ingress into Gemini for its longest stint since 2012, thanks to the upcoming retrograde. Venus is usually in a sign for 1 month, this ingress will see Venus occupy the sign of Gemini for 4 months (April 4th– August 8th).

Mars is quick volatility, Saturn is slower, but fear inducing and consequential. I personally prefer my Conquences to not be delivers at pace, but this is how this duo rolls. It’s a volatile combo who can easily manifest in ways that are challenging individually and collectively.
In 2020 Mars and Saturn are connected to each other for 12 weeks instead of the usual 6 weeks. We are currently at the halfway point. Mars moving into Aquarius will in some ways bring down the high intensity a notch, seeing its fricative nature being applied in a different yet still challenging way, until mid-May.
As these 2 planets separate by 7thApril, this is when Mars Squares Uranus hot on the heels of its Saturn conjunction. This adds a very unpredictive and reactionary quality to early April. It is not until Mars enters Pisces mid-May, that we will begin to see an easing of the intense pressure and speed to which these once in a lifetime events that are unfolding. Saturn Pluto = 22 degrees of Capricorn Jan 12th / 13th 2020
Welcome to the 2020s, where things get a little freaky early on, with the alignment of Saturn and Pluto on 12/13 January. The 2ndweek of the New Year, is quite something to behold, feeling the catalyst, the tipping point for change, a changing of the guard or a new operating order or paradigm, its being formed. Richard Tarnas labels this conjunction, “Cycles of Crisis and Contraction”, in his Great book, “Cosmos and Psyche”, and after years of speculation, it’s finally upon us.
2019, held a strong pulse of this as we lead into the, January 12/13th, Saturn & Pluto conjunction. Anointed by some as apocalyptic, others have described as the fascist conjunction, it’s certainly a pressure cooker, as established power structures and unseen power forces collide. History and events that have occurred during past intonations of this conjunction have not been kind. Seen as large marker point for social change and even dismantlement of Society as we knew it at that time. We are now at this point of history, once again.
Saturn and Pluto conjunctions occur every 33 to 38 years, and have an aggressive, de-stabling of power & quality to them. Power, abuse of power, over-use of power, control and dismantling are all strong themes aligned with the conjunction. The 2020 hook-up occurs in Capricorn, Saturn’s Ruling sign, the significations towards Government, Global Reputations, Control, Money and Conservatorship have never been so strongly at the forefront; for a seemingly larger dis-enchanted Global Population. Pluto introduced the theme of financial disruption, when it entered Capricorn January 2008. The immediate manifestation and impact was the World GFC. The 2020 Saturn Pluto conjunction will put great pressure on, this model, which was interrupted with the GFC, and look at how sustainable both fiscally, and perhaps environmentally, it really is. Saturn Pluto are the Ultimate Power Games or Star Wars.
The last Saturn Pluto conjunction occurred in 1982 in Libra. The peak of the Cold War, Ronald Reagan, an actor, was President of The United States, not that dis-similar to the current President. Margaret Thatcher was in Power in the UK. Cuts to Public Service, Free-market Economies was the new economic survival mode. Thatcherism& Reaganomics were sweeping the West and became a new Western Government standard. Free-market Economies, Privatization of Government Services was unheard of before this point. It was what we “needed” to survive the economic issues of the time.
Previous to the 1982 conjunction, there was the Saturn Pluto Conjunction of 1947/48 which saw, India and Pakistan separated by a new invisible land boarder by the British, separating families and religious boundaries, creating physicality to something that was always more loosely defined. The creation of Israel, from Palestine and the carving up of the new boarders in the Middle East also occurred at this time, the issues around this, are still not resolved. The Conjunction before that, saw events precipitate and create the beginning of World War 1. Crisis and Contractions indeed, Saturn Pluto have demonstrated many times just this century alone, the power it has, to change the global landscape of the world we live in over and over again, for power and control.
The opposition of Saturn and Pluto, of which this conjunction is the closing cycle of, was when the September 11thterrorist attacks occurred in the United States. Creating the marking point of the current global climate and politics in which we live. Interestingly enough, Saturn was in Gemini in the 9thHouse of Devoted Religious beliefs and Philosophy and Pluto was in freedom loving Sagittarius in the 3rdhouse of local neighbourhoods and day to day environments, when this attack happened, showing the great impact and literal manifestation, this combo can create, in such tragic ways. The fall out of such a deplorable act against humanity, reflects the depths that these 2 planets will go to push their respective agendas, it is with the current January 2020 cycle that we see these 2 mighty forces come together again to potentially reconfigure the world landscape, once again.
The recent rise of Brexit, Local and regional Nationalism, refusal of rights for refugees and the continued changing landscape of global politics, demonstrate clearly that we are currently living in Saturn Pluto times. The purpose of this article is not of prediction, but one must observe, the recent influence and obvious signs of climate change. The realizations that our planet is not able to sustain life as we know it, is a potential avenue for such Plutonic change, in this 2020 cycle, as it has been bubbling away for most of 2019. This outcome of this observation remains to be seen, but the resistance of government to address or recognize the issue is a potential sticking point, and an area that is due for cataclysmic change. It will be interesting to see what sets the agenda pre and post Jan 12/13th2020.
Two days before we have this exact conjunction, will see a lunar eclipse also on the Capricorn Cancer Axis, reinforcing the themes of Home, Resources, Nurture, Sustenance and Protection vs Governance, Society, Power Structures, Money and Rulership. Eclipses are shadow points, darking of the luminaries, effects and results are never seen or witnessed at this exact time, this also blurs or darkens the scope of the Pluto Saturn conjunction which occurring at the time of the Eclipse. Basic terms, this time frame will be clouded from obvious direct indications of what direction the pressure points will transmute from. But the pressure points will still be felt and activated.
The 3rdTransit this week, which will merge and melt into all of the above. which also occurs at the Eclipse, is the Mercury Cazimi, also in Capricorn. It the perfect antidote, for insight, in the weeks ahead. Mercury, conjoining the Sun, which is being eclipsed by the Nodal axis at the Cancer Full Moon, pulls in the Mercurial to an already intensive week of confrontation and challenge. Mercury, having its full pallet cleansed, burning away all the side issues holding it back from addressing the real issues at hand, will be very interesting to see unfold. Like all Mercury Cazimi, we will not find our way with this until late January, after the New Moon in Aquarius, and once Mercury moves past 6 degrees of Aquarius. But what the Cazimi does offer, is a chance to reset our voices and opinions, amongst all this overwhelming aggressive, constraining and conflictive energy to give resource and clarity on how to move past or through the proverbial mire.
January, is an unusually heavy and volatile Moon, proceed with caution. The Lunar Eclipse in Capricorn tomorrow is conjoined Saturn, our keeper of lessons, the master of restriction and it will oppose Venus; the bringer of joy and cohesive Relationships, in Cancer. This eclipse on the South Node is allowing the release of old ideas around relationships, while opening a space for new formations, as the South Node has a purging effect on the planets its aspects.

Cancer and Capricorn speaks to the see-sawing around nourishment, person comforts, protection and space VS the need to exert oneself into the world, in an attempt to be seen with a long list accomplishment, no matter what the barriers. Cancer doesn’t always feel comfortable in propelling its self into the world to be exposed and vulnerable, whereas Capricorn isn’t always able to see that looking after one’s self or the care of those they hold the nearest and dearest; can be of more value than Status, Power or Money it chases. This is the sea-saw motion being navigated by tomorrow eclipse, with Venus and Saturn being drawn into the mix allowing for a purging of Old Value Systems around Relationships and Power, between yourself and the environments you seek to climb. Venus isn’t having the best time opposing the South Node, Pluto and Saturn. However, post eclipse, allows for a fire purging of Venus, burning off the residual of all that is trying to constrain her momentum forward. This Post Eclipse burn off, when Venus is meeting the Sun then opposing Pluto, is a road she must travel to revitalise and purge allowing her to make the most of the new cycle, which awaits. Saturn which always limits and controls, will be asked by the Moon & The South Node, to delved deep into emotional waters, to separate and strip what is not needed in this new phase and what has been out grown and superfluous. The South Node/Saturn conjunction last longer than the actual eclipse.
